People In Motion - About Us

People In Motion opened our doors at our Cottonwood avenue location in 1989 by Edward Arnston as a not-for-profit organisation geared towards helping people with disabilities, for the past twenty years. We moved to our new location on Tranquille Road in 2008, having a larger staff to help serve the needs of people with physical and cognitive disabilities. We are an issuer of disability parking permits in British Columbia. We also have built a camp ground on White Lake with amenities for people with disabilities. We have a multitude of recreation programs in out Active Living Program, giving people with disabilities the chance to socialize with the community. We also have a paratransit bus that we rent out, as well as use for charters.

* People In Motion publishes a bimonthly newsletter filled with information of interest to people with disabilities and those who care about and support them. We also use our web site and e-mail to get the word out about agency activities and other matters. Members receive the newsletter as a membership benefit.

* Volunteers are an integral and welcome part of how we do business as an agency. Volunteer opportunities with People In Motion offer community members the opportunity to develop:
     • an awareness of people with disabilities
     • an understanding of the non-profit sector
     • marketable job skills and experience
     • credit for school/college/university courses
     • on-the-job training and experience

* All this plus a chance to make a meaningful contribution to our programs, services and operations!
Volunteers support all aspects of the agency including the Board of Directors, office services, fundraising, program support and camp management.

* The volunteer application form is available on our website as well as at our office.

* Volunteers are expected to demonstrate belief in our Mission Statement and our values through their actions as a People In Motion Volunteer. People In Motion has adopted the Canadian Code of Volunteer Involvement as a measure of the respect we place on volunteerism

Our members have a variety of disabilities both physical and cognitive.
